Pictures of the strangest deep-sea animals ever have been uploaded to Russian fisherman Roman Fedortsov’s Twitter account. In Murmansk, in the far northwest of Russia, the man operating the camera uses his phone to record the frightful animals that become entangled in the fishing nets. Some claim that the unusual fish resembles a prop from a horror film. When touching these unusual water creatures, Fedortsov, however, exhibits no indications of anxiety and even injects humor into his tweets.

Arguments like “deep sea creatures should be left alone” were made in response to the photographs, which caused some controversy and criticism. The dilemma of whether deep-sea fish should be sacrificed for the purpose of a dramatic tweet arises because many of them perish due to pressure changes when brought to the surface. In addition, people fear that if they ever saw these terrifying fish again, they would ruin the fragile environment that supports the enigmatic creatures that live on the ocean floor.
